In a recent meeting held in Hanoi, Vietnam and Japan have reaffirmed their dedication to enhancing ties between their respective ruling parties and legislative bodies. The discussions took place between Nguyễn Duy Ngọc, a senior official of the Communist Party of Vietnam, and Hagiuda Koichi, Executive Acting Secretary-General of Japan’s Liberal Democratic Party (LDP). This dialogue comes on the heels of Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s visit to Vietnam earlier this year, during which both nations welcomed the expanding Vietnam–Japan Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

The talks underscored the importance of deepening political dialogue and facilitating exchanges between parliaments. Nguyễn Duy Ngọc emphasized Vietnam’s robust economic growth and ongoing administrative reforms, suggesting that Japan could play a crucial role by sharing its expertise in local governance and decentralization. This collaboration would aid Vietnam in its institutional development. Furthermore, Nguyễn Duy Ngọc called for broader cooperation in areas such as human resource development, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and green transition, as well as economic security and quantum technology.

Additionally, the Vietnamese official advocated for closer interactions between the two countries’ parliamentary friendship groups and encouraged more exchanges that involve young lawmakers. Recognizing the significant Vietnamese community residing in Japan, the Vietnamese side also requested continued support for these citizens and proposed simplifying visa procedures. A long-term goal discussed was the introduction of visa-free travel for Vietnamese citizens to Japan.

Hagiuda Koichi expressed strong support for the expansion of bilateral cooperation. He affirmed that Japan’s Liberal Democratic Party and its parliament are committed to promoting exchanges and joint initiatives, particularly in advanced technologies, digital innovation, and the realm of green energy. This cooperative stance is expected to bolster the strategic partnership between the two nations, fostering growth and development in these critical sectors.
