China has imposed new export controls on 40 Japanese entities, accusing them of aiding Japan’s military enhancement and “remilitarization” efforts. The controls target 20 Japanese companies and divisions, including those linked to prominent firms, by restricting Chinese and foreign exporters from selling them dual-use goods that could be employed for both civilian and military applications.
Additionally, another 20 Japanese entities have been placed on a watch list, which mandates that exporters must seek special approvals, provide risk assessments, and ensure that their products will not be utilized for military purposes. China argues that these measures are necessary to deter what it perceives as Japan’s expanding military ambitions.
