Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi has expressed that U.S. sanctions against International Criminal Court (ICC) President Tomoko Akane conflict with Japan’s dedication to the rule of law. Takaichi emphasized that Japan has consistently urged the United States to refrain from imposing these sanctions.
In response to the sanctions, Japan has implemented measures to mitigate their impact on Akane. This includes providing support concerning financial transactions to ensure her activities are not unduly hindered.
Addressing criticism about Japan’s response, Takaichi asserted that the Japanese government is taking the matter seriously. She highlighted Tokyo’s responsibility to protect its nationals abroad, underscoring the significance of their actions in this context.
