President Trump outlined that the proposed agreement with Russian President Vladimir Putin would initially involve the supply of more than 300,000 tonnes of diesel, with further shipments planned in the coming months. The initiative aims to alleviate fuel prices. However, the plan has been met with opposition, as a bipartisan group of U.S. senators called for its reversal, citing concerns over supporting Russia’s energy sector during its ongoing conflict with Ukraine.
Additionally, Trump mentioned an energy ceasefire agreement between Russia and Ukraine, though details remain vague. Reports of continued attacks on energy infrastructure have cast doubt on the ceasefire’s implementation.
On the commodities front, Brent crude saw a slight increase of 0.1% to $104.76 per barrel, while U.S. benchmark crude decreased by 0.4% to $91.50. Oil prices have been volatile due to uncertainties related to the conflict with Iran and global energy supply disruptions.
In the U.S., concerns about inflation persist, with a University of Michigan survey indicating consumer expectations of inflation reaching 4.7% over the next year, up from 4.6% the previous month.
