Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal recently wrapped up a four-day trip to Japan, during which he observed a keen interest from Japanese businesses in increasing their investments and partnerships in India. Accompanied by a business delegation of nearly 200 representatives, Goyal engaged with Japanese companies across various sectors, including robotics, semiconductors, electronics, renewable energy, and advanced manufacturing.

The discussions held during the visit are already showing promise, with potential investment opportunities emerging. Notably, a Japanese robotics company has identified an Indian partner and is considering the possibility of manufacturing robots in India. This reflects a broader strategy to boost the number of Japanese companies operating in the Indian market, which currently stands at around 1,500. India is eager to attract more Japanese investment in its burgeoning industries.

A significant aspect of Goyal’s visit included talks on revisiting the India-Japan Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement. Both nations are keen on addressing regulatory concerns and exploring further avenues for business-to-business cooperation. These discussions aim to foster a more conducive environment for trade and investment between the two countries.

India and Japan are focused on strengthening their trade and investment relations. They have set an ambitious target for bilateral trade, aiming to reach $27.47 billion in the fiscal year 2025-26, with a long-term goal of hitting $50 billion by 2030. This visit marks a step forward in realizing these targets, as both countries look to deepen their economic ties.
